The Breast is Best?

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has sent a letter to the founders of Ben and Jerry's asking them to replace cow's milk with human breast milk in the products.

The 'People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' say using human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health.

The letter read, in part:  Storchen restaurant (in Switzerland) is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers-and cows-would reap the benefits.

Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease-America's number one cause of death.

The ice cream makers responded saying, they applaud PETA's novel approach, but "a mother's milk is best used for her child."

So would you prefer chocolate or vanilla?

The PETA people are crazy and, at least in my eyes, irrelevant at this point. I sometimes just can't believe the idiocy of these people.

So what I instantly saw from this information is public milking station for profit in the future. Not unlike giving blood, there is a golden business opportunity here for anyone with a passion for implementing this brilliance in the world. Take the idea and run and create a franchise of Mama Milk Machines !!! Love this post and the idea.

Breast Milk? Oh, for crying out loud. How many women do you think it's going to take to make that much milk? Give the job back to the cows, otherwise, we'll have the ACLU after us.

Betty,

That's one of the advantages of being a journalist. I can find news in many different places :)

Yuck! I agree with Vicki - just how many women would it take to fulfill B&J's milk requirement? Well, actually, not much because they would immediately lose all of their business, starting with mine.

There are a lot of things in the world that pose a "hazard to customers health". If dairy products cause someone a problem, they should avoid it. The same with sugar, caffeine, peanuts, etc.
